The Best Places To Get Botox On Your Face
Did you ever read that the eyes are the windows of the soul? In this baffling and often difficult experience called life, wrinkles should be regarded as metal of honor. However, in the job market, those lines are Custer’s Last Stand. Congress can pass law upon law battling age discrimination, but in American culture, youth is worshipped and age is treated like Ebola. Botox, applied with a cool hand, is another weapon against age discrimination. Economically speaking, this deadly toxin should be added before you recycle your resume. Affordable Botox can be your first step to getting a higher paying job.
The economics of Botox can complicate your search. Allergan, bless their corporate hearts, owns the patent. It was set to expire in the near future. Then, in a move that was reviled by some business pundits, the company transferred the patent to the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe—a sovereign entity that was paid an initial $13.75 million, to be followed by an annual payment of $15 million. Botox provides the company with 10% of their annual revenue, so obviously something had to give. Allergan also tried to transfer Restasis, a treatment for dry eye to the Mohawks, but an appeals court denied the transfer in July 2018.
So, what should you be paying to erase those age lines? A 100 cc vial of the magic poison costs the doctor about $400-$575. The raw material needs reconstituting with sterile normal saline. I advise rookies to limit their dose to 25 units. As an experienced user, all I want at one session is 25 units. You can always add more, but once it’s in it can’t be taken out, Expect to pay anywhere from $10-$14 a unit, depending on who is administering it. You want to avoid the frozen look.
Botox lasts about 3-6 months. On me, it lasts 9 months. One San Juan doctor quipped, “If all my patients were like you, I would be out of business!” In addition to erasing my “thinking lines,” Botox also aides in collagen production. Collagen is the prime stuff of youth. It also lends more elasticity to the skin, which negates future wrinkles.
The Most Popular Injection Site Is…
Most of the injections are focused on the area right between and above your eyebrows. My guru in Philadelphia, Dr. Mary Stefanyczyn, used to castigate me for my “scowl.” That expression, stamped on my face by deep thought and buckets of worry is purely genetic-I have noticed my son crinkling up in the same way, and he’s only 30. Done correctly, Botox can elevate the entire forehead.
It can also be used in the lower sections of the face. Just one or two units in the wrinkles on the upper lip can erase all evidence of those cigarettes you used to smoke. Also, a couple of units may be placed in the deep furrows (on some) found streaming from your nose down to your chin, (Nasal-labial folds.) Then, the marionette creases, beginning at the outer corner of the lips and trending downwards to the chin, can also get 2-6 units.
Generally, those folds are better treated with fillers such as Juvederm, (another Allergan product,) Conceivably, you could have the Botox first, then after it works its magic 24-48 hours later, you could get plumped up with your favorite filler.
Some practitioners have used Botox to rejuvenate the neck, although the results take up to 14 days. As a nurse who once took a Botox seminar, I would leave that area strictly to those with an MD or DO after their name.
Besides getting Botox to help you get the job you so richly deserve, it is also an adjunct therapy to CO2 laser resurfacing therapies that improve the overall texture of the skin. Sometimes, newly hatched wrinkles appear after those treatments.
On a personal note, I have had laser treatment to my face with absolutely no result. That does not mean that you should not look into it. Results, one way or the other, cannot be guaranteed.
Finally, if you suffer from chronic pain, especially the explosive pain of migraines, ask for Botox. It wipes the pain clean.
I have had male practitioners concentrate only on the small region above my eyebrows. In my opinion, that is like driving a car that has only one gear, Botox can do so much more. For example, in the hands of a very experienced doctor or nurse, Botox can be placed to correct wrinkles in the lower section of the face as well. I am stressing very experienced. It can even be used on the throat, to dispel horizontal bands of wrinkles. As a nurse, I would refuse to administer Botox, except in the upper third of the face. That license was hard to get and I revere it.
