What Color is Your Parasol?
Living in the tropics is more fun than living in ten feet of snow, and I speak from experience. Many of us leave the Frozen Tundra for friendlier climes. Be advised that due to damaging UVA and UVB rays, if you live in a sun-washed state or territory, a large collection of hats and umbrellas is a must.
When we first moved to Puerto Rico, a lady we met while lunching advised me to never leave the house without a fan or an umbrella. For women in dryer climates, I would also add a moisturizing skin cream to the list of essentials.
The problem is, which is the best? It all depends on your needs. La Mer is widely considered to be the crème de la crème. It should be the best because it is priced between $300 and over $2000. This places it far beyond the pay grade of the average woman, in the US or globally.
Once or twice, as I was perusing the wondrous shopping venues here in Puerto Rico, I met some intensely handsome Israeli young men. (Do they ever have unattractive ones?)
At the newly hatched and upscale Mall of San Juan, my husband and I once had a wonderful afternoon with the youngsters at Forever Flawless. In a life highlighted by some wonderful times, this excursion ended up running us about $5000. I confess that it was a blast.
I do believe that this product line, which gives instant results, is superior to anything else out there. They also replace products if necessary up to a year later.
We have decided that in the future, that money should be used for other cosmetic and travel adventures, so I have bought replacement creams at drug stores and department stores.
These days, I scan the sales of my local drug stores. Lancôme is a globally successful brand, but I prefer a sale price of L’Oréal, its twin. My method is to take one of my favorite skin creams and generously mix it with sunscreen of 100 SPF. It’s fun once you know how.
Another favorite of mine is Neutrogena, a worker-bee familiar to all and accessible to most. Their serums deliver a strong dose of Hyaluronic acid, one of your skin’s worker bees. This fun molecule plumps your skin up and pulls moisture to it, leaving your complexion firmer. Small lines are softened and your skin glows.
I bet you have heard this a million times but I need to remind you: Don’t forget your neck. To that admonition, I could add your décolletage and your hands.
