Botox or Dysport-Which is Better? Maybe Xeomin!
If you could time travel back to the Old West and go to a saloon, your bartender would have said, “choose your poison.” When I think about my favorite poison, I just say, Botox. I have used it for at least twenty years. Like Timex, it just keeps on ticking. Now, we have a couple of other beauty poisons to consider: Dysport and Xeomin. How do they differ? More to my wallet’s point, how much do they cost? All are affordable, though this will vary on your geographic location.
Cosmetic surgery injections vary in cost depending on location, just like Real Estate. You may need to choose Dysport over Botox if Botox stops doing its job the way it used to. That happens to a few unfortunate souls. If you choose Dysport, it will be superficially cheaper –at the doctor’s cost of $4 a unit. But, you will need about 2.5 more units than with the gold standard, Botox.
Also, because Botox has been around since the 90’s, it is easier to find a doctor who knows the ins and outs of it. For example, when I lived in Philadelphia, Dr. Mary Stefanyczyn was kind enough to let me shadow her for a day. She showed me how to slowly pull the needle out, simultaneously ejecting a few more drops at the site. This was a handy trick she had of ensuring a good result.
Botox is only supposed to last 5-6 months, but for me, it lasts over 9 months. So, I have very little reason to change my poison.
Xeomin is the new gal on the block. In fact, the makers of Botox, Allergan, actually tried to stop it from reaching our shores. That should tell you something. They were afraid, very afraid.
One benefit of Xeomin is that it does not need refrigeration. Why is this important? The shipping costs are less, and if you have a doctor with any ethics at all, your dose will be as pure as the driven snow. If your doctor lacks ethics, fire them!
Best of all, it has no additives, so, if you like your diet kosher or vegetarian, this may be the gal for you. The cost is something that interests me. It will cost your doctor $3-$4 less than Botox, so, he or she should be passing that savings on to you. Unless you live in NYC or LA, expect to pay between $6 and $7 per unit. That is a saving of a few dollars.
If you were brought up by my Mom, you know that a dollar here and a dollar there adds up to lots of dollars.
So, what do we want to spend out savings on? Well, more Cosmetic Surgery is at the top of my list, parallel to travel, eating out, and having the gang over.
I report. You choose.
